AgilityBeginner I - Prerequisites: Dogs must be at least 6 months old or have completed Puppy Agility or have training coordinator approval. Introduces dogs to the basic agility obstacles at low heights. Handlers learn, using positive reinforcement, to teach their dogs to perform the obstacles, respond to basic agility commands, and maintain focus with their dog. Dogs must be at least 6 months old or have completed Puppy I/II Agility or have training coordinator approval. Dogs will be on leash and must be trained by the same handler throughout the class. Must attend 5 of the 7 weeks in order to advance. Beginner II - Prerequisites: Dogs must have completed Beginner I or have training coordinator approval. Focuses on handler skills, turns and body language while improving the dog's performance on obstacles. The class further develops teamwork while learning control off-leash. Height of some obstacles will be progressively increased. Dogs may be off leash when running a series of obstacles; dogs must be trained by the same handler throughout the class. Must attend 5 of the 7 weeks and have met all class goals in order to advance. Foundation Skills 1 - Prequisites: Dogs must have taken minimum of one beginner or intermediate agility class; handler must have verbal control of their dog off leash as off leash dogs will be working together. Class will build specific skills as prerequisite to handling sequences. Skills include flatwork, jumping with extension/collection, jumping with recall to heel and much more. Students should have at least 2 jumps at home or be able to improvise; weekly homework is required to prepare for the coming week. Foundation Skills 2- Prerequisites: Dogs must have taken minimum of one beginner or intermediate agility class; dogs must be able to work off leash. The goal of this class is to help the handler understand the different types of turns used in agility and how this affects the dog. Class will help the handler understand the importance of lead changes, how it affects the dog's path and ability to change directions and turns. Teams should have focus while working off leash. Send & Go Agility - Prerequisites: Dogs must be at minimum at the Beginner 2 level of agility and must be at least 8 months old; class will modify to zero-to-low jump height for dogs between 8-12 months. Class will work on obstacle commitment and be done with jumps, tunnels and groundwork. This is not a class for sequencing. We will work on building confidence and commitment to obstacles with clear criteria through fun exercises. Hit The Jackpot (Beginning Games)- Prerequisites: Dogs must be at minimum in Intermediate 1 level or above and be able to perform all obstacles, including 12 straight up weaves (no wires). For teams BEGINNING to work on distance/gambles. Class will focus on skills and strategies for playing games like Jackpot and FAST along with starting to build distance between dog and handler. Pre-Competition Agility- Prerequisites: This class is for dogs who are at least 1 year old at the time of the first class. For dogs who have had basic agility training but are not yet ready to compete at Novice level. . Class focus is to build confidence on contact performance and work up to full height contact equipment, introduce weave poles primarily using the 2 X 2 method, and teach jumping form, technique, and skills. Teams will develop handling skills needed to begin sequencing, including the use of appropriate handling cues for front and rear crosses. Intro to 2x2 Weaves - Prerequisites: Dogs must be able to safely work in close quarters with other dogs as this class takes place in our smaller training room. Class will concentrate on helping your dog find their confidence, footwork and speed through the weaves; work on dog's ability to find the entrance and complete the weaves independently. Class will use the Susan Garrett 2x2 weave method which is ideal for novice dogs with no weave training or those that have started weaves but are not yet ready for competition. Teeter and Weaves -Is the bridge between Beginner 2 and Intermediate 1. Teeter skills focus on acclimating dogs to teeter movement, building confidence, and working from the low to the high teeter. Weave pole skills will focus on correct entries and exits, gradually working towards speed and accuracy on six or twelve consecutive poles. Dogs should be able to correctly perform weave poles and teeter fairly consistently before moving to Intermediate 1. Students are not permitted to take this class more than 2 consecutive sessions in a row. Just Weaves- This class will concentrate on helping your dog find their confidence, footwork and speed through the weaves. We will work on your dog's ability to find the entrance and complete the weaves independently. Students are not permitted to take this class more than 2 consecutive sessions in a row. ***This class is 30 minutes in length*** Fearful Teeter- Does your dog think the sky is falling when it goes on the teeter? This class will help your dog overcome that feeling and gain the confidence it needs to do the teeter. Any dog who will not do the teeter at all, does it only at low levels or exhibits a fairly extreme fear of the teeter will be permitted to sign up for this class. ***This class is 30 minutes in length*** Start Line Stays & Recalls- Prerequisites: Dogs must be at minimum Beginner 2 level. This class is for handlers that want reliable start line stays and recalls on the agility course; also for dogs that ignore recall cues and/or run off to sniff on course. Beyond the basic obedience recall there are other recall types to use on course. Class will start with stay and recall foundation exercises and build from there. Agility Confidence & Focus- Prerequisites: Teams should be at Intermediate 1 or 2 level, able to do all contact obstacles (teeter, dog walk and A-Frame) at full height and 6 weaves without wires. Class is designed for teams in which the dog is stressed, disengaged, or unenthusiastic in agility and/or teams that want to improve their dog's confidence, engagement and speed in agility. Class will focus on short sequences (3-5 obstacles) and improving handling skills and timing. Teams will learn strategies for reward delivery, start line routines, and handling mistakes on course. Teams should use either throwable toys, treat containers, lotus balls or other food stuffable toys for rewards on course. Intermediate I - Prerequisites: Dogs must be proficient on low-height teeter, A-frame and dogwalk: must be able to do six weave poles with or without wires, poles close together. Skill development includes improving handling cues, learning new handling skills, continuing work on teeter performance, proofing contact performance on the A-Frame, teeter and dogwalk and improving confidence in the weave poles. Dogs over the age of 15 months will be moving up to full jump height. Longer obstacle sequences and course strategizing will be introduced. Dogs must have met all class goals in order to advance. Intermediate II - Prerequisites: Dogs must be able to do 12 weave poles; must be able to do teeter, A-frame and dogwalk at full height. Handlers must be familiar with post turns, front crosses and flip turns. For teams getting ready to compete at the Novice level. The class works on advanced handling skills, obstacle discrimination, speed versus accuracy, and course strategy. Dogs should be proficient on all obstacles and running sequences of 10 or more obstacles to enter this class. Dogs must have met all class goals in order to advance. CPE Agility Games- Prerequisites: Teams must have completed at least one intermediate agility class. Making the jump from class to competition can be scary. This class will walk you through the rules of the games at a CPE agility trial. Class will also help you learn how to fill out entry forms. If you have competed but want to learn more and/or want a better understanding of the games, then this class is for you. Intermediate Skills and Drills- Prerequisites: for teams currently at Intermediate 1 or 2 level, dogs must be able to do 6 weave poles independently (without wires) and be proficient on all full-height obstacles. Class will work on one to two skills weekly such as crosses, flip turns, wraps, serpentines, weave entries and speed and contact performance. Class time will consist of multiple repetitions to practice the skills. This class is NOT a sequence or full courses class. Intermediate Courses- Prerequisites: Teams must have taken Intermediate 2. Dogs should be able to execute all obstacles (with room for improvement), be efficient in at least 6 independent weave poles and have a reliable recall. Teams will be focusing on handling and performance skills while running shorter full courses. Challenges will be presented each week and you will work through them and find ways to effectively and efficiently direct your dog. Advanced Courses - Prerequisites: Teams should have taken Intermediate 2. Focuses on polishing the handling and performance skills of experienced teams. Teams run a variety of full courses, focusing in on particular challenges each week and working on the proper cues to effectively direct the dog. Dogs should be capable of performing all obstacles at full height with confidence. Teams should be capable of competing at the intermediate to advanced levels. *** Agility Theory - Prerequisites: Dogs should be at minimum in CPE Level 3/AKC Open or have completed an Intermediate 1 class. This class will help you understand the basic principles behind agility and how to become a pro-active handler. Learn to give your dog the most information possible while on course in order to help them run more efficiently. These concepts will be taught through intermediate to advanced level drills. Distance & Handling- Prerequisites: Dogs should have distance skills and competing in CPE Level 3/4/5/C or Open/Excellent AKC level. This class focuses on improving and adding tools and strategies for handling and course execution. Weekly themes present advanced handling skills such as layering, backsides, 280's, serpentines, distance handling and threadles. All obstacles are at full height and weaves do not have wires. Handling Options for Advanced Teams- Prerequisites: Teams must be competing in, or able to compete in AKC Excellent, CPE level 5/C or compatible level in other organizations. Focuses on advanced handling skills with compare and contrast scenarios. Weekly themes will focus on improving handling skills such as sends, crosses, serpentines, cueing extension and collections and obstacle discriminations, then incorporating the skills in sequences. All obstacles are at full height and weaves do not have wires. Skills and Games Courses- Prerequisites: Teams must be competing in, or able to compete in AKC Excellent, CPE level 5/C or compatible level in other organizations. Each week will focus on particular skills and on running a games course (CPE Jackpot, Snooker, Jumpers, Barrel Racing, Pairs, etc). Games courses will be set in order to provide multiple practice opportunities of the weekly skill(s). Summer Agility League Play- League Play will consist of two agility games each week. Dog and handler teams will run the games as if at a trial, and scores will be tallied weekly with a small and large dog division. This is a fun and slightly competitive class. It's a great way to practice your skills and give your dog 'trial' experience. Class is for ADVANCED dogs only. Dogs should be at level 3 or above in CPE, TG3 or above in TDAA or have completed the Open level in AKC. Agility Courses- Prerequisites: Teams must be competing at an Excellent/Master level or compatible level in another venue. Focuses on the ability to walk, analyze and run full courses (19-21 obstacles). Handlers will walk full courses and create a strategy for the best way to handle the course for themselves and their dog. Potential problem areas of the course will be discussed, and alternate handling solutions may be presented. Advanced Jumpers- Class will run fast-paced sequences and work on: front, blind and rear crosses & timing of those cues; thinking on your feet; learning what your motion and location mean to the dog when running; importance and consistency of verbal and visual cues; weave pole entry from many angels and working toward independent poles. Sequences will be run once and then again with suggestions on other effective approaches. Teams must be competing in AKC Novice, CPE level 3/4/5/C or compatible levels in another venue. Advanced Sends & Recalls- Prerequisites: This class is open to dogs who are currently training at and/or competing in the AKC Open or Excellent/Masters level or CPE level 3 or higher. In this class, teams will learn and refine the 6 recalls and 2 sends of a motion-based handling system, improving communication between the handler and dog, creating tighter turns and better lines. Jumping, Weaves and Contact Fundamentals- Prerequisites: Dogs must be at least 11 months old at the start of the session and have completed Beginner 1 and Beginner 2 agility classes. This class will focus on three primary areas: teaching dogs proper jumping form, fast and accurate weaves from the ground up, and increasing independence on contact performance. Agility Skill Sets - Prerequisites: Teams are expected to be capable of competing in the Intermediate to Advanced levels. Dogs must be able to perform all obstacles including 12 weave poles and the teeter with confidence. Goals for this class include perfecting handling options for your team, identifying dog's path vs handler's path and for each team to gain a better understanding of how personal handling choices will impact their team's success. Teams will work on skills such as serpentines and pin wheels, 180's and 270's, weave pole entrances, front, rear and blind crosses, and obstacle discrimination. Agility Elements- Designed for those who are new to agility and those with limited opportunity to work on basic skills. Skills will include reliable two on-two off behavior, start line stays, how to teach sends to your dog, the front cross, extension and collection recall, using body language, reward delivery, transport, noise acclimation and movement acclimation. Work will be done on the flat. Positive motivation will be foremost in all activities. There will also be email/text instructor support. |
RallyBeginner Rally - This class will be a combo of traditional rally class with exposure to novice rally courses mixed with foundation exercises for better heeling and to improve the working bond between the dog and handler. Much of rally and obedience can be broken down into foundation exercises and there are many more options to training for rally than just drilling coursework. AKC and WCRL signs will be used.
AKC & WCRL Rally - This class will focus on skills, drills and course work in both AKC and WCRL rally, all levels. Intermediate Rally- Prerequisites: at least one session of Beginner Rally. Class will expand on foundation skills from Intro to Rally. Skills include transitioning from luring/shaping, building duration focus and heeling, concentration on footwork for better turns and learning new skills to prep for Rally trials. Foundations never stop, set yourself and your dog up for success by gaining an understanding of breaking down more advanced skills into smaller steps and expanding on previously built novice skills. Beginner & Advanced Rally Essentials - Focus on beginner and advanced rally fundamentals: acclimations, engagement and 'ready to work' for training and trialing, ring entrances, removing the leash and maintaining connection, defining heel position for each team, distractions (general and also offset figure eight distractions), position changed and rear end awareness. Will include signs, sequences and courses. Advanced AKC Rally - Prerequisites: Heeling with loose leash and sit on cue. This class builds comfort with all Advanced and some Excellent signs and skills and includes a weekly off leash course. Games and play keep FUN in Rally. Your team doesn't need a Novice title to benefit from class. Class adapts to team needs. Map to Novice AKC Rally- Prerequisites: sit on cue, self-control on leash. Rally is the fun relaxed performance of basic obedience behaviors, where trialing mimics training. Class will build your dog's basic skills, provide an understanding of all 42 novice signs, and give you confidence to trial virtually or in person. We have a lot to put in 6 lessons, so be ready to practice at home. Week 7, you will do an approved AKC virtual novice course, videoed on your smartphone. AKC Rally Courses and Signs 1- Prerequisites: beginning rally or equivalent skills. Weeks alternate between two rally courses (Novice/Intermediate/Advanced level) and exercises to develop comfort with sign vocabulary and confusing/similar signs Stay fully engaged with your dog by knowing your signs. Dogs must crate when not working. Building Blocks for Rally Excellence- This class focuses on creating a strong foundation for common rally exercises. Students will also practice the foundation exercises on AKC and WCRL sequences. This class will primarily teach the dogs proper execution of exercise elements, with a lessor focus on handlers learning the signs. Puppy/Obedience
Puppy Agility- Prerequisites: For puppies aged 4-12 months. Puppies must have had three sets of vaccinations prior to attending. Focuses on agility foundation skills and performance of obstacles in a manner that will not strain a puppy’s growing body. Obstacles may include tire, tunnel, plank walking, table, and weaves. Obedience exercises, such as sit, stay, down, walking on a loose leash and come will also be included.
Canine Good Citizen Class -Prerequisites: Dogs must have some basic obedience training. Class will focus on practicing and expanding upon basic obedience exercises necessary to pass the Canine Good Citizenship (CGC) test. The CGC title test will take place on the last night of class. Owners and their dogs must have completed a basic obedience course and be able to perform basic obedience exercises (heel, come, sit, down, stand, stay) on leash to enroll. Cost of class includes the test. Canine Good Citizen Advanced Class- Prerequisites: Dogs must have obtained their CGC title. Class will focus on practicing and expanding upon skills from the CGC class, in more complex scenarios. Owners and their dogs must have completed and passed the Canine Good Citizen test (CGCA). The title test will take place on the last night of class. Cost of class includes the test. STAR Puppy Class - For puppies aged 4-12 months. Puppies must have had three sets of vaccinations prior to attending. An AKC program designed to get owners and their puppies off to a great start. All basic commands will be taught with the needs and abilities of puppies in mind. Puppies will have the opportunity to socialize with other dogs, learn commands with distractions and build confidence. Puppies must have had three sets of vaccinations prior to attending. Beginner Obedience- Prerequisites: Dogs must be at least 4 months old and up to date on vaccinations. This class will teach basic obedience exercises, manners, plus a few tricks and games. The obedience exercises should help enable you and your dog to achieve the AKC Beginner Novice (BN) title if you choose to compete. Many of these exercises will benefit you and your dog in future classes such as the CGC, agility and rally.
AKC Novice Competition Obedience - Prerequisites: For dogs and handlers that have taken ARF Beginner Obedience class (or have previous obedience experience) and are interested in pursuing the AKC Beginner novice (BN) or Companion dog (CD) title. The class will focus on how to correctly perform the exercises, understanding AKC Obedience Rules and Regulations, proper footwork and handling skills and improving the handler and dog's confidence to work as a team. Advanced Competition Obedience - Prerequisites: An AKC CD title (or completion of Basic Competition Obedience and instructor’s approval). For teams pursuing Companion Dog Excellent (CDX) title or higher in AKC obedience. Class will cover exercises and skills required for both the Open and Utility classes. Limited to 6 students. Competition Obedience: Open- Prerequisites: Dogs must have an AKC CD (Companion Dog) title or instructor permission. Review of AKC Open class exercises with drills and skill work to strengthen performance, as well as preparation for the show ring. Limited to 6 students. Competition Obedience: Utility- Prerequisites: Dogs must have an AKC CDX (Companion Dog Excellent) title or instructor permission. Review of AKC Utility class exercises with skills and drills to strengthen performance, as well as preparation for the show ring. Limited to 6 students. Conformation- Teaches proper hand stacking, free stacking, shifting center of gravity, giving attention and expression, gaiting, baiting and being comfortable with being examined. These are the skills that divide winners from losers in the show ring. Good handlers always look like they're doing nothing at all; the best dogs look like they know what they're doing and do it naturally. This class will take you from rank beginner to competent owner-handler.
Rowdy to Self-Control 1- Reactivity can be a significant stressor in the dog/handler relationship especially in the excitement-filled sport dog world. This class will provide the time and repetitions to build connections between dog and handler, teach tools to help your dog deal with different environments and provide a support system for people to talk situations through. If your goal is just to have a relaxed walk or to have a calm dog between agility runs, this is the class for you. Rowdy to Self-Control 2: Getting a Working Mind- For dogs who have completed Reactive 1. We will be combining all games learned in Reactive 1 with more distraction, more pressure and stressors, and more fun in order to gain more tools for success and trust. The relationship between canine and human will be challenged and developed. As always mistakes are expected, but what do we do to train through them. This class should be the step between returning to performance sports with the skills for handler and dog to tolerate stress and manage it appropriately. Engagement and Play- This class will help your dog develop self-control skills through play and leave-it, learn targeting and confidence-building skills, how to use your human body as a part of play, learn fetch and tug as both play and reward, play at scent problem solving, learning how to take turns with other dogs that are playing and learn how dogs say this is FUN! Dogs will work longer and harder when play is taught as a reinforcer and this class will help to develop your dog's play skills and build a stronger bond between you and your dog. Open to ALL ages of dogs and humans. Impulse Control & Resilience for the Canine Athlete- Prerequisites: Dogs MUST have agility obstacle experience; class is NOT a reactive dog class. Class will focus on impulse control & resilience through self-control games and stationing; focus with movement and distractions; keeping engagement with the handler and not on the room; walking games for getting from crate to ring without big feelings; play and treat options on cue along with working around equipment without becoming overly aroused or shutting down. Perfect for up-and-coming competition teams. Crate to Q- Class will focus on teaching an on/off switch preparing for crating between classes in trial environments. We will work on crate games to make the crate a more fun space, focus games when coming out of the crate to prep to enter the ring, as well as settling in the crate between activities. Class is geared towards dogs who struggle with crating in unknown places, environmentally-sensitive dogs or dogs who struggle to settle during non-active times. Novice Tricks- Prerequisites for dogs 6 months and over with some basic obedience training; puppies must have had three sets of vaccinations prior to attending. Sit, stay, SPIN! Teams will learn the skills involved in trick training, such as clear communication and methods for luring, capturing, and shaping behavior. Class will focus on a few tricks each week. Teams will have the opportunity to be evaluated for a Novice trick title through AKC or DMWYD. Cost of class DOES NOT include evaluation/title fees. Intermediate/Advanced Tricks- Prerequisites: dogs must hold Novice Trick Dog title through AKC or DMWYD or have instructor approval. Take your trick training to the next level! Teams will build upon foundational trick training skills to learn intermediate and advanced level tricks such as leg weaves, rollover, and taking a selfie! Class will focus on a few tricks each week. Teams will have the opportunity to be evaluated for an Intermediate or Advanced trick title through AKC or DMWYD. Cost of class DOES NOT include evaluation/title fees. |
